The Savory & Sweet Truck was created by Byron and Kiki Sambat, a husband and wife team who both worked from age 15 throughout college in restaurants serving everything from pizza to upscale gourmet French cuisine and who both share the same culinary passions. After working in our respective careers for a few years (him as a graphic artist, and myself, as a private investigator for a forensic investigations company), we decided it was necessary to return to the culinary world and contribute our vision for great food to the city of Knoxville.
It all started in 2011 with Kiki Foods, a bakery specializing in scratch-made baked goods. Kiki Foods used local, seasonal & organic ingredients. Everything was homemade from scratch, including all pie crusts, fillings, cookies...All berries and fruit used were locally sourced & from farms in and around Knoxville. The baked goods were sold at several local farmers’ markets, as well as in a couple retail locations and restaurants in the Knoxville area, but we always knew that we were destined for something on a larger scale.
In 2012, we decided to expand the business to include savory items in addition to the sweet treats we were already producing; hence the name, Savory & Sweet. The expansion of the business came in the form of a truck that had been renovated and converted into a mobile kitchen. This kitchen allowed us to bring mobile food to the Knoxville area and start living out our dream of creating gourmet food for our local community.
